Abia: Otti Vows to Work with High-Performing Former Mayors

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti has informed the former mayors that he would work with those who had excelled in their roles and include them in his government.

He emphasized his commitment to collaborating with capable individuals, recognizing their contributions, and ensuring that their experience would be valued in strengthening his administration.

Governor Otti announced this during a dinner on Sunday night, at the Banquet Hall, Government House Umuahia, for the newly appointed and outgoing mayors from all 17 LGAs, along with their deputies.

At the event, the Governor reaffirmed his administration's firm stance against corruption, underscoring his dedication to maintaining transparency and accountability in all aspects of governance.

He stressed that his government would not tolerate any form of unethical behavior, and that upholding integrity would be a top priority in his leadership. He highlighted the importance of trust and honesty in building a strong, transparent administration.

He noted that the gathering provided an opportunity to promote collaboration and reflect on the valuable contributions made by the mayors in their respective local governments. He also mentioned that the event allowed for appreciation of their efforts and served as a platform to discuss ways of strengthening partnerships for continued development in the state.

The Governor stated that their efforts were acknowledged as valuable, and the Governor expressed appreciation for the positive impact they made in their respective roles, despite the brief duration of their service. He took the opportunity to praise the former mayors and their deputies for their significant accomplishments during their time in office, recognizing their dedication and contributions.

"In the eleven months and a few days they’ve served, the positive changes they’ve brought to their respective Local Governments are clear for all to see.

"Their outstanding performance has left me incredibly proud, and I can confidently say that I am truly proud of each and every one of them. It is this deep sense of pride that has inspired me to host this gathering today to celebrate their achievements", he stated.

Otti outlined the careful, deliberate process involved in selecting the mayors, emphasizing that his administration prioritized individuals with proven character and strong reputations. He explained that the primary criteria for selection were a deep commitment to service and a track record of integrity.

Furthermore, the governor reiterated his firm stance on corruption, declaring that his administration has zero tolerance for any form of unethical behavior. He stressed that integrity, transparency, and accountability are core values driving his governance.

Governor Otti emphasized that those with intentions of personal enrichment should rethink their approach, as his administration is committed to upholding integrity and accountability at all levels. He told them to prioritize public welfare above personal gain, warning that any official found engaging in corrupt practices would face serious consequences.

He warned anyone who believes they were appointed to steal money to reconsider, advising them to resign before they bring disgrace upon themselves. He emphasized that true leadership is about stewardship and made it clear that his administration would not tolerate such behavior.

"I will spare no effort in exposing anyone involved in theft," he warned.

"While I may sometimes show leniency and ask you to step down, there are times when I won't be so forgiving. I can assure you that this administration will not tolerate corruption, and its leaders will not engage in stealing", he added.

The State Governor assured that the performance of the current mayors would be carefully assessed and compared to that of their predecessors. He encouraged them to draw lessons from the example set by the outgoing mayors, noting that they had laid a path for others to follow.

Otti further promised that his administration would provide unwavering support to help the new mayors succeed, regardless of political affiliation. He emphasized that, once elections are concluded, the focus shifts to governance and the collective responsibility of serving the people.
